Stale Dated Checks

Stale dated checks are defined as checks that have not been presented for payment within six (6) months from their date of issue. Stale dated checks should be reissued upon payee’s request only.

For Title IV student refund checks, see Federal Regulation 34 CFR 668.164 paragraph (h)(2), effective July 1, 2008 – “If an institution attempts to disburse the funds by check and the check is not cashed, the institution must return the funds no later than 240 days after the date it issued that check."
